How to Make An Altered Valentine's Day Book - Part Two
31 December
I've been working on more pages for the altered Valentine's Day book that I'm making.
I've got a few more to share today 😀
I love looking at altered books from the side like this. You can just tell that it is full of lavish details... fabrics and trims, papers and ribbons, etc.
The page on the left is a very carefree design. I just grabbed several small scraps of fabric and sewed them all together for the background.
Then I added layers with a pocket from a vintage apron (the apron was already torn up), a ruffle along the bottom made with more of the apron fabric, some ribbon that looks like a measuring tape, and I spelled out the word LOVE with some letters that came with a license plate frame that you could personalize.
I made a red felt heart to go in the apron pocket and embroidered XO on it.
This little half-page is actually an envelope that came out of an old household filing binder.
Behind the pocket page is this pretty page!
Here are the next pages.
The pink paper I used for the background has little embossed lips that are hard to see in the pictures but very cute.
On top of the pink paper, I layered a dictionary page and a vintage photograph. I love using old photographs that otherwise would be thrown out.
He just looks to me like he has a lovely young lady back at home waiting for him 😊
I added some wings (stapled on), a piece of an old bingo card, and a garter belt hook with ribbons tied to it.
I also wrote "my man" with little hearts on the picture.
This page has a pretty floral fabric on the background, a vintage white doily on top of that, an old book page spritzed with dye mist for another layer, and then a cherub sticker.

I will even use ripped-up papers because it gives a vintage feel to the page. Here I added some crinkled paper along the bottom and the doily has a tear as well.
To finish this page off, I added some hearts cut from the original papers that were in the book and more crinkled paper on the top.
