7 Days of Thrift Shop Flips - Day Five - Easy DIY Ring Holder
17 August
It's day five of 7 days of thrift shop flips already, can you believe it?!
I hope you've been enjoying the projects!
Today's project is an item that actually serves a purpose... a useful purpose... every girly-girl needs one of these!
I have had this little thrifted box for quite a while, it's been listed in my Etsy shop for just as long and hasn't sold so I thought a makeover was in order.
I already had the batting too, it came off the Curb Side Bar Stools that I made over.
This project idea is not my original idea, there are a lot of DIY ring holders on Pinterest but I especially liked Sarah's technique over at Sadie's Seasongoods. She made hers in a vintage cigar box!
To make your Own:
Measure your box and cut rectangles of batting slightly wider than your box. Mine measured 6" x 6" so I cut rectangles of batting about 6 1/4" x 4" (my batting was quite dense and thick, if you are using thinner batting you'll want to cut your pieces larger than 4" so that when they are rolled up they are big enough)
Roll each piece up and stitch it so it stays together. This step doesn't have to be pretty, I used a simple whip-stitch and it was all over the place! 😃
Keep making these and adding them to your box until you have enough to fill it up. You want them to fit tightly in the box so really cram them in there!
Now cut rectangles of fabric large enough to cover your batting rolls. Roll them up like burritos using hot glue to secure them!
Once you have all your rolls covered (giiirrrlll... I wish I could cover my rolls for real! 😂) put them back in the box. You can use hot glue to secure them to the box but mine were snug enough in the box that they are not easily coming out so I skipped the glue (It's a whole lot like shoving your rolls into your too-tight clothes... or maybe that's just me!)
I used a flat plastic ruler and shoved it along the edges between the fabric and the box so that any fabric that was bunched up was pushed down to make a smooth edge.
I'm hoping that this will sell in my shop now!
It will hold a LOT of rings!
I hope you've been enjoying the projects!
