Upcycled Filing Cabinet Wood Storage
03 September
I'm making progress on setting up my new workshop and I'm excited to share this project with you!
I need lots of different storage options for the different types of projects I like to work on. One thing I need storage for is all the scraps of molding, dowel, and wood pieces. Before it was all shoved into two plastic garbage cans that were always threatening to fall over.
I picked up this metal 2-drawer filing cabinet at Goodwill for $4.99.
I just needed the shell of this filing cabinet so the drawers had to go!
I sanded it lightly and then sprayed it with bright yellow spray paint. This will match the yellow toolbox that my dad gave me 😊
After painting it yellow, I let it cure overnight. The next day I added the stripes along the sides. I taped off the stripes I wanted and then used white spray paint to add them.
I drilled four holes in what used to be the back, now the bottom, of the filing cabinet.
Add four caster wheels using a nut the same size inside to secure the wheels.
Now, I just needed to cover what used to be the bottom of the filing cabinet because this is now the end.
I had a scrap of pegboard that I wanted to use. Do you like my work table?! 😂 I'll be so happy to have a place to work other than the top of a garbage can!!
I used my jigsaw to cut a piece of the pegboard to cover the end.
Here is my completed wood storage box!!
I don't have anything hanging on the end yet but it could be used to hold small things... tape maybe? What would you put there?
I'm almost done setting up my new shop, I'll be sharing more soon!
