Organized Girl Shop Reveal!
06 October
My shop is completed, all except for getting a workbench along one wall to hold my scroll saw, sander, drill, and chop saw. I'm waiting on a friend who says he may have one I can have when he gets it cleared off.
If you are new to LVC, my house has a very long, single-car attached garage. I had a workshop built into the end near the backyard, the rest is still garage space which is where I store holiday decorations, bicycles, and very soon... my car! Just in time for winter!
I'm really excited about that because I have never had a garage to park in! It will be so nice not to have to scrape my windows this winter! 😀
Would you like a tour of my new workshop?
Here is a little flashback to what it looked like before the remodel (after I cleaned all my crap out of it). It's so funny to me how tiny this space looks here! It feels like they added on when I'm in my new workshop!
And here is inside my new workshop. You can see the progress shots here, Remodeling the Garage to Create a Workshop.
I decided to just paint the floors rather than having the added expense of flooring and then the worry that I might ruin that floor while working out here... it is a workshop after all!
After I got the room painted my dad came to help me organize. The first thing we did is bring my very heavy workbench in.
My ex built this beast for me years ago and my dad gave me the bench vise that is conveniently mounted on the corner of the bench. If you are setting up a workshop for yourself, I would definitely recommend a bench vise. They are so handy for holding things steady when you need to and many of them have built-in anvils like mine. I use the anvil for things like flattening silverware to make plant markers, etc.
The rolling stool on the shelf is a mechanic's stool that I use when I'm painting furniture. It works great for rolling around and around the furniture piece when you are painting. It was killing my knees to keep squatting up and down while painting so my parents got it for me for Christmas. If you paint lots of furniture I would recommend this too!
I saved this pallet I found to make some cool shelving with. This is my dad posing with it before we transformed it, I'm not sure what was so funny but I must have amused him somehow! 😂
We really didn't do a whole lot to it, just added a couple of fence boards for shelves! It works great for things I use often, like my drill and sanders.
I added a magnetic strip that I found a Goodwill. It will be nice if I have an inspiration picture to look at, I can just stick it up out of the way.
I had some large hanger things that were in the garage when I bought the house. We used one of them to hang my extension cord at the end of the workbench.
I bought this cushiony mat for my daughter for one of her apartments. The kitchen floor was nasty so we covered it up with this. When she no longer needed it I saved it for my future workshop! This is another thing that is so nice to have when you are standing for long periods working on a project.
I made this wood storage from a 2-drawer file cabinet, Upcycled Filing Cabinet Wood Storage.
And I used the very last of the pegboard I had for some hanging storage on the wall above.
On the opposite wall is the sliding glass door out to the backyard. There was an old kitchen cabinet hanging in the garage that I wanted them to relocate here but they broke it when they were trying to take it down so I got a brand new cabinet to replace it free of charge!
I had this heavy-duty shelf that was the perfect size to fit underneath.
I had this old saw and I asked my mom to paint it for me! I love it!!
On the other side of the sliding glass door is the vintage cabinet that I saved from my space at the antique mall.
I used some old paint cans to hold my brushes and stir sticks.
I shared the paint can lid flower I made here: Trash to Treasure Paint Can Lid Flower
This cabinet holds all my paints and painting supplies. On top is my Wagner paint sprayer and behind that in the blue bag is a small spray shelter.
On the wall next to the paint storage cabinet I wanted shelves. I found these super cool slabs of wood in the rafters in the garage after they tore the sheetrock down! These suckers are SLABS too, wait until you see how thick they are! The one in the middle here is full of nails... it's like someone used it to practice on! I left them in for patina!! They were super dirty from being up in the rafters for so long so I just sprayed them off and let them dry in the sun.
Here they are in the shop! I only used the two long ones for now.
My yellow toolbox my dad gave me is underneath (that's why I chose yellow for the upcycled filing cabinet wood storage) and next to that is metal basket I'm using for rags. Istole... permanently borrowed... found!! 😁it behind a grocery store. I took found two and I use the other one for my laundry hamper!
The vintage canisters on the shelf hold different rusty parts and pieces. I have since relocated my coveralls to a hanger that goes over the door.
I hung this little green metal door on the wall here, It can be used with magnets or chalk works on it too!
And my vintage exit sign I've had for years is above the sliding glass door.
My recommendations, great for your own workshop or for gifts for a loved one!
