Upcycled Camera Tripod Lamp
11 December
I don't know what the weather is like where you live but it's been rather dark and dreary the last few days here.
I don't suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder or anything like that but I sure do miss the sunshine this time of year. So it's very appropriate that this month's Thrifty Chicks challenge is titled "Light"!
If you are a new subscriber (or just visiting 😊), the Thrifty Chicks challenges happen on the first Wednesday of each month. A group of us get together for an upcycling challenge, it's always fun to see everyone's interpretations. And come January we will have a new participant!
I bought it for this very purpose but I just never got around to making it! These challenges are good motivation 😀
That large metal part on top needed to come off in order to create my lamp.
Once that piece was removed you can see that it has a hole for my new lamp parts!
Here is my tripod base all painted and set back up.
I purchased a simple lamp making kit and some extra threaded nipples at the hardware store to make my lamp.
I added a longer nipple and followed the directions on the back of the package for the rest.
It fits down into the hole on the tripod top. The hole was actually way too large for the lamp parts but my tripod had a handy dandy tightening screw on the side so I just screwed that in to hold the lamp parts in place!
I am telling you that making a lamp with one of these kits is one of the easiest things ever! The directions are very easy to follow so don't be intimidated!
You just connect the lamp cord ends to the screws on the sides of the socket.
I think I'll change out this shade, it's not really my style anymore but it's what I had on hand when I made this.

I wanted my lamp base to be black so after I adjusted the legs to the height I thought I wanted my lamp to be I removed them and took them outside to spray paint.
