Upcycled Yogurt Container Easter Baskets
24 March
I've been working hard to come up with some quickie crafts that you can do in just an hour or two and I think this fits the bill!
So, today I have a fun project that involves something that you would normally throw away in the garbage or the recycle bin!
I think you'll like this little project and it's something that kids can be involved with too 😊
The little containers reminded me of tiny Easter baskets so I saved a few!
To make these I first painted them with a couple of coats of light pink paint to help cover up the name.
To make the little "skirts," you just use a needle and thread and run a gathering stitch along one edge of the paper, then place it around the yogurt container and tie the ends of the thread.
Then arrange the gathers so they are fairly even around the container. Add a few dabs of glue to hold in place.
I made handles with pipe cleaner stems by twisting two together.
Bend it into the shape of a handle.
Hot glue to the sides of the basket.
Add some trims and ribbons to the basket to your liking.
And some Easter candies!
I save everything so the little blue felt flower on this one is something I made during a different project. It didn't work for that project but I saved it because I knew it would work for something else later!
The pink plastic flower on this one is from a broken children's toy.
I gave this one to my mom for her birthday.
When I see those old packages of seam binding tape (not bias tape) at the thrift stores I always pick them up and then I take them out of the package and wash them so they come out all wrinkly and pretty! That's what the ribbon on these baskets are made from.

I have a basket full of rolls of vintage crepe paper streamers so this is what I used to cover the outside of the containers. It would be cute to use old sewing patterns too!

Add some Easter grass or crinkle cut basket filler.
And some Easter candies!
I made four of these in a couple of hours' time!

Some other ideas:
Instead of crepe paper try:
- Sewing patterns
- Hankies
- Colored tissue paper
For embellishments try:
- Old jewelry pieces
- Buttons
- Broken parts and pieces
- Bias tape
- Lace
- Rick-rack or pom-pom trim
