Upcycled Vintage Easter Egg Diorama
05 April
I am slowly making my way through some of the things I have in my upcycle stash since the thrift stores and craft stores are closed.
It's fun to see what you can come up with by using only what you have on hand!
Since Easter is right around the corner, I thought an Easter craft would be fitting.
It already had the cute scalloped trim along the inside edge so I glued the pink bias tape around the outside edge and the blue rick-rack trim around the front edge.
I found this cute little bunny on Pinterest and printed him on cardstock in a size that would be good for this egg.
Here he is all cut out... cute yah?!
I left a tab at the bottom when I cut him out and then cut slits so I could glue them so he would be slightly curved.
And once I trimmed it all up, this is what it looks like!
Now I wanted to add something to the outside of the egg. I had this vintage flower bouquet thing, I think it was probably off a box of chocolates since it says "Russel Stover".
I took it apart and added the bow to the top and then used some of the ribbons to create a sort of sash across the back of the egg.
Then I added the flowers back in.
Some little plastic eggs...
A little gold bow (this is elastic and was also around a box of chocolates at one point... I save everything 😌)...
And I added these into the mix. The flower is on the bunny's head, the eggs in the grass, and the gold bow is covering the ends of the rick-rack trim.
I painted it aqua.
A piece of chenille pipe cleaner will help the egg stand so it won't wobble.
All done!
I used the white one to recreate the original trim that the other half had, I think that worked out pretty good!
I found these adorable flowers in my stash! I had forgotten about these!
And I found another smashed up ribbon bow, this time in white.
This one got some little chenille flowers.
This little chick is adorable in his little blue coat, don't you think?!
I updated my letter board for Easter too.
I will probably list one or both of these in my Etsy shop.

Upcycled Vintage Egg Easter Diorama
I decided to create something with this vintage paper mache egg. The outside is covered in gold foil.
It's marked "Made in Western Germany" on the inside which I believe dates it to the early 1950s.
Since it's pretty plain I decided it was a good candidate for an upcycle project!
I chose a couple of spring colored trims for the edge.

I wanted to add a little 3D tail to give him some additional cuteness 😊 I made a small little pom-pom with my fingers and some fat yarn.
I added some of the original Easter grass that was in the egg.

Now I needed a stand. I thought this little metal mold would work well.
I painted it aqua.

But I still had the other half of the egg!!
For this one, I chose these trims.

I had a little more trouble getting this one level so I ended up with several layers of pipe cleaners. I covered all that mess up with a piece of wide bias tape.
They look super cute on my table! I made the yarn carrots last year, you can see that post here: DIY Yarn Carrot Cones
I updated my letter board for Easter too.
These were really fun to make and I think they turned out pretty cute, what do you think?
