Laundry Room Makeover - Walls and Cabinets
05 May
My laundry room is in the middle of my house and visible from the front door, the living room, the dining room, and the kitchen so it needs to look nice. If you missed my video home tour, you can check it out here and see the whole layout and all the rooms of my house: Video Home Tour.
Laundry Room Makeover
This is the view from the front door and the living room. You can see how I made the table that goes over the washer and dryer here: DIY Laundry Folding Table.

You can see my solution to the ugly hot water heater and electric panel here: Hiding the Electrical Panel and Hot Water Heater. While it didn't look bad in these pictures, I was ready to change it up a little bit... can you believe it has been 6 years since that original makeover?! 😲
I had been thinking about what I wanted to do for a while so what luck that Limitless Walls contacted me about that time asking if I'd like to review a wall mural! In this post, I'm going to share the initial makeover details... painting and the wall mural, and I'll share the decor details later. Stay tuned to the end of this post and I have a special discount code to share with you for Limitless Walls!

I decided to use the wall mural in the back of the open cabinets above the washer and dryer and the pegboard over by the back door.
I also decided to paint. Here are the colors I chose. Dark Secret for the cabinets, the sides of the folding table that goes over the washer and dryer, and the back door; and Falling Snow for the walls and trim.
The walls before were grey. It really lightened things up in there to paint them white and that's a good thing because I knew the black was going to darken it back up a little bit.
I don't usually tape off when I'm painting but in this instance, I did since my walls were freshly painted and I didn't want to have to touch up the edges over the black.
I had a brain fart in that middle row and forgot that I didn't need to bother with painting the backs because I'd be using my new wall mural in them!
I ordered this mural with laundry symbols. It comes in a big roll.
You can customize these to whatever size and color you want. I had them size mine to about 3" per image and in a shade of grey. You can see how large they are by the comparison of my hand next to the image.
I got their standard self-adhesive fabric mural but they do have other options.
I measured my cabinet openings and used regular scissors to cut to size.
I will admit that once I received the mural, I doubted my choice a little bit! But, when I do this I always just forge ahead and trust my initial gut choices, and 9 times out of 10 I love it in the end!
Once I got this first piece up I knew I was going to love it 😍
I had some extra so I put it on the bottom shelf too. The other shelves are so high you wouldn't see them anyway.
All done with the cabinets!!
I didn't take pictures when I was covering the pegboard but the process is same as the cabinets... measure, cut, trim with a razor blade if needed, just like hanging wallpaper except there's no messy glue and that silly "booking" process where you have to dip it in water, fold it in half, and let it sit to activate the glue!
You can see the finished pegboard and the newly painted black door here. I also hung my drying rack back up after painting the walls and added a shelf above it.
Here is my pile of goodies I got for this makeover. I love getting everything I need for a makeover together in a pile before I start 😁
I have one more detail to share today and it has to do with this shower curtain I found at Target.
I was looking for fabric to disguise my hot water heater like I did last time but I was having a hard time since the fabric stores are all closed right now and everything I liked online was expensive! Well, Target is open so I went to check out shower curtains thinking I could use the fabric for my hot water heater!
They did not disappoint! I got this cool shower curtain for just $14.99!
I had enough for the hot water heater and the curtain and I still have some left!
This is the same curtain that was already there. I just removed the yellow strip of fabric that was on it and sewed the new piece on!
You can see the black sides of the folding table here.
I love the way it is looking so far!
I put my upcycled gun-safe-turned-shelving-unit back in its spot... I never even took the stuff out of it, just moved it around as I painted! 😅
So now that we've got the basics done, the next post will be all about the decor!
