Upcycled Cuckoo Clock
25 July
I'm excited because today is the first-ever "Do It Over Designers" project day!
And this little bird nest with the babies was also included.
Next, I needed a way to reattach the pendulum. I was able to remove a metal bar from the original clock mechanism to reuse. I added a bead of E-6000 glue to attach it and then I was able to hang the pendulum from it.
I cleaned up the original clock face to reuse. I like that it says "Germany" on it.
What do you think?!
The pendulum is just for looks now but isn't it sweet?
If you've been around here for a while then you know that I used to participate in a monthly upcycling challenge with a small group called The Thrifty Chicks. Well, our lives and blogs took us in different directions and after several years, we have disbanded. 😥
Right around the same time though, I got an invite from another blogging friend of mine to participate in a new group she was creating called Do It Over Designers!
I was excited to join because I was really sad that the Thrifty Chicks projects were ending, I really enjoyed them.
Here's how it will work. I will share my project with you and at the end of my post there will be links to check out the other ladies' projects!
So for my first Do It Over Designers project, I am upcycling something I've had for a couple of years.
Upcycled Cuckoo Clock
When I had my space at the antique mall one of the other vendors brought in a box with two old cuckoo clocks and various parts and pieces that went with them.
Since they didn't work, I thought they were perfect for an upcycling project!
I chose one of the clocks and removed the internal, non-working clock mechanism. It was held in place with just a few screws.
Then I wiped it all down to prep for paint.
I chose a pretty aqua color to give it a whole new look.
I think it looks better already!
The box that had the two clocks also had some parts and pieces. This little bird was included.
Both pieces got a coat of yellow paint.
I used a new, battery-powered clock mechanism in place of the old, non-working clock parts.
Here it is all finished!
