Well, I finally put away all my Christmas decor. I really miss the lights from the tree though so I think I need to get some twinkle lights to have up year-round. They will be nice when I get some Valentine's Day decorations up too!
Speaking of Valentine's Day decor, I don't have a lot of it do you? To me, a lot of what I see in the stores is kinda cheesy. So instead, I like to make some simple crafts to decorate with 😊 like this garland I made from recycled sweaters! Cheap and cute!!
DIY Sweater Heart Garland
You only need a few simple supplies to make these:
- Old sweaters (I thrifted mine)
- Ribbon
- Cardboard scraps
- White craft glue
- Hot glue
- Scissors
I already had the white sweater sleeves but did not end up using the cream-colored sleeve in this project.
It is pretty easy to cut out hearts but it will be better if you create a pattern so that they will all be the same size.
Pin it to the sweater and cut out a bunch of hearts. I ended up using 9 hearts in my garland.
Then trace and cut out the same number of hearts from some scrap cardboard for backing for your sweater hearts.
If your sweater is really bulky and thick you might not need the cardboard hearts but mine were thinner and I wanted them to hold their shape when hanging up.
Put white craft glue on the heart and smear it all around so the whole thing is equally covered.
Add the sweater hearts onto the cardboard hearts.
I put them between two pieces of wax paper and placed books on top so they stayed flat when drying. The wax paper ensures that any glue that squeezes out doesn't ruin my books!
I used some pink bias tape ribbon to create my garland.
Tie a knot in the ends of the ribbon for hanging.
Use hot-glue to glue the hearts to the ribbon. Make sure to glue them toward the top of the heart so they won't flip upside down when you hang them.
I used a scrap of cardboard as a spacer so all my hearts were the same distance apart.
The line across this heart is actually the inside seam! I thought it was cool.
