Home Gym Design Board
We have moved on to another makeover at my boyfriend's house. This time it's a strange little room that he could never quite figure out what to do with.
I'll explain more about this room and share my inspiration with a design board I made for the room.
Design boards help to get a vision of how everything will look together and are a great way to plan out a room redesign.

We have already ripped out the old carpet from the room and replaced it with rectangle peel and stick floor tiles and painted the room. He already has a treadmill and some kettlebell weights and his house has nice ceiling fans like the one in my design board.
Let me show you why this room is so strange. I drew up a little floor plan to show how this room is situated. It's not to scale of course!
This is a narrow room right between the guest bedroom and powder room and the master bedroom. The only way into this room from the front door is through the living and dining rooms. At the other end of the room is the door to the backyard, it's the only way to get to the backyard from inside the house.
Because of this, the room wouldn't be appropriate for another bedroom because the only way into the master bedroom, guest room, powder room, and out to the backyard is by passing through this room.
We have decided to turn it into a home gym.
Here are a few before shots of the room. Yes, it's definitely messy because we used this room as a catch-all room while we were working on the patio, laundry room, and garage makeovers.
This was the view while standing in the dining room looking into the room. The door to the backyard is at the end.
We have already started the makeover by painting the walls the same Polar Bear color by Behr that we used in the laundry room.
And we ripped out the carpet and replaced it with these Traffic Master 12" x 24" Travertine Peel and Stick Vinyl Tiles, it was only $236.00 for 160 square feet.
The carpet was nasty because you just stepped right from outside onto the carpet and then tracked sand, dirt, and leaves right through the center of the room. You couldn't even have an entry rug to catch any of that because the door opens to the inside and the carpet was too high to allow room for a rug.
I love the look of these bookshelves at Room for Tuesday. I think I can find enough black and beige books around his house to go with the color scheme for our room.
I also plan to incorporate some things from shopping around his house, like a little white Buddha he has.
I ordered one of these Interlocking Exercise Mats.
And we will be DIYing a large mirror similar to this one from Busy With D!
And I'm hanging long white curtains at the doors that go to the backyard.
I'm excited, the room is already looking so good and he seems happy with it too!
PIN ME!
Looks like it'll be a nice calm space for working out or sitting on the couch and feeling guilty about not working out!! LOL! Will the TV be going away or will it stay for some entertainment while using exercise machines?
ReplyDeleteThe couches are gone, there is a smaller TV now mounted in front of the treadmill so the only option is to walk on the treadmill and watch TV or I guess you could just stand there... or go out to the living room and not workout... lol! We may put a chair in there though, we'll see.
DeleteThat room is a really weird layout!!! You wonder what the builder was thinking. I like your choices and look forward to seeing more as you progress.
ReplyDeleteRight?! There are a number of really weird, what were you thinking, things in his house! haha! It's been a fun challenge so far!
DeleteI'm slow to read and reply. I loved everything that you plan on doing with this room and can't wait to see the end result. I hope your boyfriend appreciates all the advice, planning and work you are providing. Do you charge him a reduced rate? lol!
ReplyDeleteThank you Pam! He does appreciate it. He is always saying, this looks SO great. It definitely helps that we have pretty much the same taste... or maybe he's just a typical guy and doesn't care ;)
