Altered Vintage Frame Christmas Art

17 December

When Tobin and I moved in together, we both went through ALL our stuff and got rid of a lot of it... stuff we had duplicates of, stuff we didn't need (like things we hadn't used in a year or more), and stuff we didn't want anymore.

But when it came to crafting supplies and repurposable things (items I was keeping because I knew they could be repurposed into something else cool), well... that was harder.

There were just some things that I couldn't part with! Oh, I tried too! One was the frame that I used to make this piece of Christmas art. I priced it and put it in the sale we had but it didn't sell so I put it back in my stash!

Here is what it looked like before I started. You can find lots of these vintage swivel frames on Etsy!

I always thought it was cool looking and could be made into something even cooler.

I started this project by making a cardboard tag. This was actually a card that bias tape comes on and I used the beige paper under it to cover it and make it a little nicer shade of off-white.

This vintage Christmas sticker is the star of this piece. This was in an old scrapbook that I got at an estate sale. It had all kinds of cool old ephemera like this in it.

You can see that it was torn in half but I was able to disguise that quite well I think!

I started by stamping the tag I made with a "Peace & Joy" stamp and red ink. Then I added some scrappy old red ribbon.

Then I added the bell on top of the ribbon. I used puffy double-sided tape to make it stick out a bit (and also because the knot on the ribbon created a lump).

Then I added a couple of miniature plastic candy canes peeking out from the side.

Then I added a wooden star that I painted yellow over the existing star on the sticker to add more dimension.

I placed it on some red polka-dot paper and put that in the frame. I added a couple more wooden stars and then glittered all the stars and the candy canes.

I made the PEACE and JOY labels with my label maker and put them on some green polka dot paper.

Now, it's time to fix that torn bell! I started the repair by just taping it together a little better than it was.

These are the areas I'm attempting to disguise.

I used paint!!

Ta-da!! If you didn't already know that this sticker was torn completely in half, I bet you wouldn't even be able to tell!

The 25 numbers are from an old bingo card.

Then I used some gold paint and my finger to accent the design on the frame.

This was a fun project, it's always fun to create little mixed-media collages like this.

I even put some pretty paper on the back and signed it 😊

  1. This turned out so cute! Thank goodness for your saved craft stash. I love those little old frames! I saw the little bears you made in your shop and they are just the sweetest ever. (I liked Rosa the best.) You have so many cute things in your shop.
