I'm back with another fixer-upper house update! I have finally been able to tackle the areas of our house that were bugging me the most... the kitchen, the laundry room and adjacent bathroom, and now the entryway. You can see those other rooms here if you missed them or want to take another peek:

On to the entryway! Our house doesn't have one, lol. When you walk in the front door you are immediately in the living room. Most houses I've lived in have been like that.
That's one of my least favorite parts of this house and since we are using what was originally a coat closet as a pantry for our tiny kitchen, we really need a place to hang coats, jackets, and bags.
So, I started brainstorming how I could create an entryway where we'd have room for coat hooks and a bench to sit on plus key hooks, etc. Today I'm sharing what I've done to the wall.
Small Entryway Makeover - Part 1
I created a video of the makeover process.
Here is what it looked like when we bought the house, this is one of the pictures I took during our walkthrough. You can see the lockbox hanging on the front door. If you walk past the stairs you'll be in the kitchen and that coat closet on the left there is what is now our clantry (closet + pantry = clantry) 😁
These are the original hardwood floors and it does look like they tried to create the feeling of an official entryway by putting the boards a different direction.
I took down the weird shell-shaped light and replaced it with the KCO Gold Modern Wall Sconce that I found on Amazon.
This is where my original plan took a detour... I was going to do a stencil on the top part of the wall but then I found this Opalhouse peel & stick wallpaper at Goodwill! It was $16 which made me gasp a little... come ON Goodwill, wtf?!
But then I saw that it sells for $34 at Target. If you gotta have it, it's the Lollipop Floral Peel & Stick Wallpaper by Opalhouse.
I couldn't center the mirror because of the light and it's a little high but I think it still works. It reflects the light from the door to lighten up this corner a bit and since we are both tall we can still look into it.
And then I added a little bit of decor to the shelf. I thrifted the picture, I just love these 90's prints! The Blah Blah Blah sign is from At Home but I don't see it on their website, it cracked me up because I say that a lot! And the little funnel-shaped vase is from the clearance section at Fred Meyer. It was just .77 cents! I added a couple of dried bunny tails and flowers.
OMGosh--I love that wallpaper. Your color combination is stunning! Tania can do!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Vikki, the wallpaper did it for me too :)
DeleteI love the wallpaper and it's pretty against the black. It looks like the wallpaper and door are about the same color. Maybe that's an illusion, but if they are, maybe they compliment each other and the door doesn't need paint?
ReplyDeleteI think they are about the same color... really close anyway. I don't know, I'm still deciding but I'm leaning toward painting it ;) Surprise, surprise! haha!
DeleteI think you did a wonderful job with this small, challenging spot. And I like the mirror off center, that is to predictable. I would paint the door after you make decisions about the bench and anything else you will do in that area. Good work!!
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I definitely think I'm going to paint the door I just have to decide on a color!
DeleteLooks so nice and welcoming, Tania. Well done!

Thank you so much!!
DeleteLove the playful wallpaper and the color pairs well with the black wall. I know you'll probably end up painting the door 😉 Right now it's almost the same color as the wallpaper and they compete with one another. Painting it black would then compete with the lower part of the wall (or would it?) What if you painted it black but distressed it so you can see the stain color underneath to tie the two colors together? I don't know, but whatever you decide to do, I'm looking forward to seeing it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the suggestions Marie! Maybe I'll go a completely different color! lol, who knows.
