I've been going through my stash of items that are ready for upcycling or repurposing. This basket was in the bin waiting patiently for its turn and finally, inspiration hit 😃
I have started making Christmas crafts, but I had to take a little detour for some Thanksgiving decor.
Repurposed Basket Turkey
I picked up this basket from Target's clearance section for $5. It's a strange little basket. I'm not sure what it was originally intended for since it doesn't have a flat bottom. I was planning to try to use a few of them for sconce lampshades but I could never find any more of them!
I found some vintage fabric with fall colors in my stash and thought it would be perfect for this project.
I used the Heat n Bond iron-on adhesive to make double-sided fabric that would be stiff enough to make the turkey feathers.
I cut out four tail feathers, two wings, two feet, and one head with pinking shears from the stiffened fabric.
I glued them all together and then stitched them to the basket.
Since the turkey neck is so long, I decided to use a wooden ice cream spoon glued to the back to stabilize it.
I cut the eyes, beak, and waddle from the scraps of the fabric in the colors I needed.
I gave him a yellow polka-dot bow.
And here he is! Isn't he funny?!
I love the vintage fabric, unfortunately I don't have very much of it so it's only good for small projects like this one.
I hope that you enjoyed this project! If you did, I would love it if you would share it.
This goofy guy is so cute!!
