Last month, I shared part 1 of our motorhome bedroom makeover. In part 1, I wallpapered the bedroom and made a new headboard.
Today I'm ready to share part 2, where I tackled curtains and lighting. I'm also sharing the reveal!
You may recall if you watched part 1 that I'm attempting to do this makeover in a removable fashion... kind of like "renter friendly" so that if we ever decide to sell it, I can take it back to the boring factory version.
So, the wallpaper is removable, peel-and-stick, and I saved the old headboard. I used a thrifted curtain panel to create our new headboard, and I'm using more of that same curtain panel in part 2.
Motorhome Bedroom Makeover - Part 2
You can watch the video of part 2 here:
I made the new curtain valance out of the thrifted curtain, and I used the hemmed edge of the curtain as the bottom of the valance. Since the valance fabric is stapled to a board and then screwed into the motorhome, there was no sewing involved!
I even had enough of the curtain panel to make a new room-dividing curtain. The old curtain had a plastic strip with hooks that snapped into a track on the ceiling. I removed that strip from the old curtain and sewed it to the top of the new curtain.
I used a strip of vinyl fabric to make a tieback.
Next, I worked on lighting. There are two reading lights above the head of the bed. You can see them in this before picture.
I used Rub 'n Buff to change the color of the lights from silver to gold.
There is also an overhead puck light above the bed.
I was inspired by some cute boho light covers I found at
The Cozy Glamper on Etsy. They have some sort of wood frame that sticks to the ceiling around the light with tape (similar to command strips, I believe).
I was going to use an embroidery hoop to make my own, but I didn't have a hoop the right size to fit around the light in our RV, so I improvised, and I'm so stinkin' proud of how my light shade turned out 😊
I used the plastic lid from a large oatmeal container! I cut the center out and glued my fringe to the outside lip of the lid.
Then I tucked the inside edge of the lid under the edge of the puck light! The ceiling of our motorhome is padded vinyl, so I was happy I didn't have to use command strips or anything that might damage it.
Now here's a dump of after pictures 😀 I already had all the bedding, pillows, and decor.
The mushroom pillow is from Walmart, the long green pillow is from Big Lots, the black and white one is thrifted, and my daughter made the booby pillow 😂
I found this wall hanging at Home Goods.
Here's the final cost breakdown for the bedroom makeover:
Part 1:
- wallpaper, wood & batting for headboard, thrifted curtain panels, button cover kit - $108.77
Part 2:
- thrifted curtain panels used to make room divider curtain & window Valance - $ covered in part 1
- Rub 'n Buff for reading lights - already had
- Fringe trim for ceiling light - already had
- Bedding, pillows, and wall hanging - already had everything
Total $108.77
I hope you enjoyed Part 2 of our RV bedroom makeover. The next room I'm tackling is the living room.
Now that is glamour!!! Gold Star!
